We are very excited to begin this new journey with both present and future learners in our home educated sector!  Our new Academy of Personalized Learning comes with a philosophy that is positive towards home education and virtual learning, more so than ever before.  We have new offerings in the form of virtual education providers as well as a new section of our home education program that includes supporting home educators that are choosing to follow a different program than the Alberta Program of Studies.
The goal of every educator (whether or not you are formally trained or are a parent at home, teaching your children), is to ensure that our students/children learn and thrive after they learn.  I think the role of a home educator is complex because you must be 'mom' or 'dad' or 'parent' and also be 'teacher'.  It's also a lot of pressure because the results of the home education plan rests entirely on your shoulders.  We aim, at High Prairie School Division, to help you along your journey as much as you want us to, as much as we can, and with the goal of helping each learner (adult or child) as much as possible.

With that goal in mind, we offer services that any 'regular' HPSD student has access to in schools.  We have success coaches that are in a unique position to understand our FNMI student's and family's perspective as well as have a mandate to create programs and offerings to enhance learning for our division students.  With them you would have a chance to participate in on-the-land learning opportunities with the surrounding First Nations communities.  We have career coaches that help students both develop a career path as well as understand how to achieve their career path goals throughout their educational journey.  They meet with both students and parents to help develop goals to ensure that whatever a child's goals are, they are met.  We have our team of specialists that go into each school that will ensure everyone understand's the unique needs of specific challenges.  For example, our speech pathologist and divisional educational psychologist often help develop plans for both parents and teachers to meet the unique needs of students who struggle with certain things.  They are also available to any division student, whether home educated or educated in a brick and mortar building.

We are also now in a position to offer extra curricular activities (sports and others) that students in schools have had access to as well as field trips that your local school participates in.

Home educated students will also be offered semi monthly field trips and social gatherings so we can all get to know each other.  We are also hoping to offer high interest night or day classes at some point in time (suggestions are welcome!) for our division students .

We truly want to 'personalize' each student's journey through their schooling or their education.  We want what you want: the very best, most happy, successful future for every child in our division.

As mentioned, we are very excited to start this journey with you.  Please ensure you register your child(ren) by September 28th at their local HPSD school.  The link to the registration form is on the side in the "enrolling students" section.  You can fill it out and email it to Golda gdavid@hpsd.ca or you can take it in to your local school along with your child's birth certificate.

Welcome to the first year of the Academy of Personalized Learning!
